Principles of Teaching: Discovering How to Make Learning Happen is designed to equip students for effective teaching. It is based on the assumption that while teachers and teaching are essential parts of life the two are often misunderstood. For example, talking in the classroom does not automatically produce learning. In fact, although many teachers in the church and in institutions of theological education are experts in the content to be taught, relatively few are trained to teach. This course is designed to equip prospective teachers for effective teaching. Three purposes of this course are to help teachers: 1) understand the concept of teaching for transformation, 2) recognize that learning is not automatic; it must be planned for, and 3) apply the concept of teaching for transformation by providing them with practical examples to use in the classroom so that the lesson taught in the classroom will be transferred to life. This course will also help teachers to know how to be more intentional in the classroom and how to teach for transformation.
